“So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, Like the spring rain watering the earth.” Hosea 6:3
Regardless of what Punxsutawney Phil says every year on Feb 2, spring is coming. After spring will be summer. Then pumpkin spice latte, followed by fall and winter. Every year for as long as I have been alive it has been the same.
Every day the sun comes up in the east. Sometimes I do not get to see the sun, but the affect it has occurs each day as even on the cloudiest days it is not as dark as the night. The sun goes from the east to the west and each day sets below the horizon bringing the earth back to night. Even if I did not have a watch, I would have some idea of when to wake up and when to go to bed.
In Hosea we are challenged to press on. This word in the original language literally means to chase or pursue. We are challenged to actively “know” the Lord
How do we “know” the Lord? According to Hosea we know Him because he is certain, never changing, reliable. Hosea uses the very nature He created to assure us that God is constant.
Am I pursing God and trying to reflecting His light? I’m certain the sun will come up!
Am I waiting on God knowing he is pursuing me? I’m certain that it will rain!
Am I pouring into others so that they can know God? Every spring in addition to warming temperatures we seem to see extra rain. It’s God giving all of the plants a little extra water to start up the living and growing process.
Do you see God moving? Press on to know the Lord, He is certain.
